Niclosamide is an anthelmintic specifically used to treat tapeworm infections (beef, pork, fish, dwarf tapeworm).

Niclosamide kills adult tapeworms by inhibiting oxidative phosphorylation and disrupting energy production in the parasite. It is poorly absorbed, acting locally in the gut. Common side effects are mild GI upset like nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain. It does not affect other types of worms like roundworms.
