Ivermectin is a broad-spectrum antiparasitic agent belonging to the avermectin class. It binds to glutamate-gated chloride channels in invertebrate nerve and muscle cells, leading to hyperpolarization, paralysis, and death of the parasite. It is commonly used for intestinal strongyloidiasis, onchocerciasis, and sometimes off-label for other conditions. Common side effects include dizziness, nausea, diarrhea, and itching. Serious effects are rare but can include neurological symptoms in high doses. Not for use in pregnancy without medical advice.
